too bad about the appeals, and BO told us in his campaign speeches his shift would be PRO union.

Angie on November 04, 2009 at 2:02 PM

Move on let it be over go look else where for a job and look at this as a very bad decision on YOUR part and at that time the UNION REP... good luck either way...

What kind of false hope are you holding onto, or is just the principle of it all now?

Bob on November 05, 2009 at 7:05 AM

I'm so happy they're gone I'm honking my horn.

Did you see all the garbage that was left behind at their trailer site on the front page picture in the LDN? Signs and beer cans littered that area. I am surprised LPD Chief Barnett hasn't used an executive order to have this mess cleaned up by strikers, and not allow them to picket any more until they do. Like he did at the skate park twice this year to many guiltless skaters. Oh yeah, those were kids, these are adults.

I don't think the teamsters were hurting too much for money, just look at the photo- and to the left, and you'll see 2 empty cases of beer and empty cans strewn about. If you want to feed your families- buy bread instead of beer. Its nice to know that the support we give them goe to beer money.

This is just going to be the start of things to come. I expect more shops to go non-union as they view it as a way to save money by paying lower wages. They will do this because they can get away with it. For every worker that steps aside there are several that will step into their place. The employers do not value employees anymore. Look at Ford and the unions unwilling to take a compromise (I would not be surprised if Ford gets sick of dealing with unions and throws them out also). I see the value that unions can offer but I also think what needs to happen is more legislation to deal with workers rights in this country. What is the deal with the whole at will employment. That is the biggest joke ever, no wonder employees are not faithful to their employer.

Give it a rest and go get a job. It was your mistake to go on strike, not the company.

dedhed1969 on November 05, 2009 at 7:06 AM

A fool and his money are soon parted.

michelle on November 05, 2009 at 7:06 AM

Yeah, definitely it is time to let go of the false hope. You guys messed up, now go find jobs elsewhere, if you can. McDonald's and Walmart are hiring otherwise I hear Pittsburg is a good place for employment, one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Good luck to you all, and a lesson to everyone else not to bite the hand that feeds you...

I would like the strikers to stop claiming they had community support - you didn't!

Susan on November 05, 2009 at 1:41 PM

I am disappointed with these comments and some of Ludington residents. I watched how people treated the scab workers who came in during the foundry's strike....pulling stuff off shelves, refusing the scab workers service at various places. People insulting employees of places who did serve them. I worked at one of these places and I lost friends because of it. Are you doing the same to these people???? Nobody stopped to think..Beer....maybe kids...maybe the possible worker drinking because he lost everything because of this strike!!!! No!! No sympathy no love nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who have you trusted that has stabbed you in the back? My Uncle worked at Metalworks for OVER 30 years and lost his job because of this. He is over 55 who is going to hire him??? You..

Bob on November 06, 2009 at 6:50 AM

He chose poorly. Got no sympathy for him.

nick on November 06, 2009 at 6:50 AM

I support my friends in the union, but i guess it is probably about time to assume they arent getting there jobs back. It is amazing how little the community supports this union, was it really the unions choice that the economy was bad when there contract came up. So what if theyre were some beer cans left over there, those guys were their for a year there is bound to be some trash leftover. Maybe metalworks can hire a scab for nine dollars an hour to clean it up.

Bob on November 09, 2009 at 7:47 AM

Brilliant Nick, unbelievably brilliant!

gunner on November 09, 2009 at 7:48 AM

I have been a union member for 14 years. They are the reason the U.S. has a middle class. While the timing of a strike was bad,I think the owners of Metalworks made a bad sitiation worse. This is the future of Mason county, low wage jobs and higher taxes on the land and house owners. This is just the beginning of the end for any economic revival in this area. Lower wages equals less spending. Unless you are a boom town like Scottvile with the construction of a "new" Dollar General Store, more crap merchandise and part-time low wage jobs.
