Elizabeth.....You can't have a multi-million dollar "summer home" on Lake Michigan, that you only live in part time, and still complain about the taxes being too high. If you really wanted to make it to the meeting, I bet you could manage to get there.
I had last read that the meeting was to be held in January. Who went to the meeting? How about some updates.
As an owner of a home/cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Pentwater, I am not complaining about taxes being too high. What I do agree with Elizabeth/Chris, is the way this meeting date was scheduled. Sneaky? Perhaps, but in order to "really want to make it to the meeting", it would certainly benefit absent property owners to have been notified...so then we could manage to get there! I guess it's a shame this blizzard came a few days early. However, there will be plenty of future discussions and I'm guessing those of us, who don't have multi-million dollar "summer homes" but rather family cottages will certainly do our very best to be there.
Chris, don't know what you're smoking, pal, but I don't know anyone who has a 'multi-million dollar summer home' on my stretch of Lake Michigan. Many of us have small cottages - not even winterized - that we are happy to pay taxes for to enjoy Lake Michigan beaches and our wonderful views and sunsets. You're confusing us with rich people! Not only is it difficult, if not impossible, for some of us (who work for a living in other states) to attend meetings, but we aren't even able to vote in the state of Michigan for the people who are representing us. The most fundamental reason for the revolutionary war was 'taxation without representation'. Who represents us?
I can appreciate the gut reaction from Chris complaining about "the rich people", but think about it...the twp always schedules hearings regarding taxes, etc. when most people are gone. Sneaky? I'd say.
