I am really opposed to any Headlee override. I understand the concept behind it in it's entirety, but I am simply opposed. It hits people the hardest that can least afford it, the self employed, and those who rent are two examples. Chances are if you own property on a lake or river, have a second home or hunting property the extra taxes are not going to put in you the poor house. However, if you are a single business own trying to make a living while paying your employees a fair wage as well, there is not a lot of extra $$$ to go around. Or if you are barely making rent payments now, when the landlord factors in the new property tax, guess what, your rent is going up. So I would encourage all who could be negatively effected by this override to register and get out and vote.

Just because a person has 2 properties in Michigan does NOT mean they can afford higher taxes any more than anyone else. We already pay school taxes for 2 school districts and maybe only use 1. With the extra taxes maybe we will not be able to come to the area as mny times and spend money in your stores, how does that help business. Passing taxes on people that can not even vote on it seems wrong to me.

jackpine, I couldn't agree more, that putting taxes on someone who can't vote for or against is completely wrong. If I am not mistaken this is a provision in Prop A, the property tax reform that was passed several years ago. I have long been against the Headlee override thing.
