RIP Berenbrocks

It is very unfortunate that the state of Michigan no longer has a negligent homocide violation. Charging Mr. Millspaugh with a moving violation resulting in a misdermeanour and community service is not enough. He was not paying attention and killed two amazing people. Their families and friends are the ones that have to pay. Especially their grandchildren and future grand kids. Hopefully his poor choices will defer others from distracted driving and maybe change the law. In addition, he could have saved many tearful nights by following the law, veering onto the shoulder and not crossing the double yellow. His story and the investigation into the accident seem like a coverup in a small community maybe even a little political! Praying for the Berenbrock and Beckett/Amon Families along with all their friends.

I agree with anonymous, though I think with the existing laws, Judge Wadel made the right decision. It is encouraging at least that this incident was pursued by the courts,as everyday motorists kill motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians legally using the roadway in similar accidents-- and the "I didn't see them defense" usually works for negligent drivers.

Wow, anonymous and Dolores, that seems a bit harsh. There was absolutely no malicious intent here, that is why it is called a accident. No one will suffer more than the Mr. Millspaugh. If he were put in jail and charged with a felony that would only be ruining another family, and life. That just doesn't seem right either. There is plenty of penalty here by just having to live with such a tragedy. Why would we want to ruin more lives and more families?
