It's about time you got dogs searching that should've been done from day one.
Concerning the continued search for Gabe Smith. A number of us in the community have questions as to why canine were not brought in sooner. Although one of the dogs is trained to find cadavers, some earlier closure would've meant the world to family and friends. Of course, we are not knowledgable in police investigation, however, it would seem that bringing in search dogs when trails (if there were any)are fresh. We are not discounting the efforts being done now, but sooner, in this case, might have been better. Taking the dogs to where Gabe was last seen (James & Filer) AND BEFORE NEARLY 3 WEEKS HAD PASSED, may have uncovered evidence and scent that has been washed away by rain, snow and time. As the newspaper only states that the search is centered around the Washington Ave. bridge, hopefully, both sides of the bridge are areas of concern. Those of us who pray for the return of a son to his parents, also pray for those in law enforcement who continue their efforts.
I agree with comments posted above, it seems pointless for the dogs to have been brought in now. I mean we have gotten snow and rain since he went missing, so at this point any scent the dogs could have picked up would have been long gone. I feel bad for the family not knowing where their loved one is whether dead or still alive, the not knowing would be hell.
I agree, the search dogs should of been put out there at the beginning.. Maybe this is a case for Americas most wanted? Or do we think it was an accident and he went over the Washington Ave Bridge? How sad for the family!
I don't even know this gentleman. My heart is saddened and reaches out to Gabe's family. Town talking is pretty understandable with the point made about dog search. My gosh somebody just don't vanish off the face of the earth or let alone Ludington. Did somebody have something against this guy? Did somebody pick him up that night and do something to him? To me this whole thing seems pretty messed up and don't make much sense. Even to many unanswered questions I imagine for his family and friends. My goodness. Yeah I think I would have the America Most Wanted involved, FBI, what about even some of the local tv programs we all get. I don't think I could or would let anything go with out a try at it. This is a local member of our community.
I have been a friend of the family for many years. My heart goes out to both Mom and Dad also to Gabes sister. Dogs, America Most Wanted, FBI, too many things went wrong in the beginning to know if any of these things would have helped. I just hope that this does not turn into another unsloved mystery for Mason Counties finest. And yes that includes LPD!
Any updates on Gabe?? Has the family contacted a psychic?
