So much for construction jobs going to Ludington people.

Joe on October 20, 2011 at 8:12 AM

The jobs don't show up at your doorstep Mike, but the jobs are there for those who research the companies that serve this industry and are willing to go work for them. In addition, they'll be eating in the area, staying in our hotels during construction, buying materials here. Glad to see it.

After just reading the story about the new development plan for the county it seems a little at odds with this story. On one hand the county and city officials want to bring tourism in through promoting local barns, agri-tourism and natural resources and on the other they are turning these same resources into quasi 'factories' for profit. I ask you this--How are these tourists going to spend their vacations in mason county when they can get the same views and experience in other places, such as Traverse City or Holland, but without having to look at and here a towering wind turbine. If it were me I'd rather look at a historical barn without a massive and loud turbine in the background! Come on people, before we spend millions of dollars on a 'tourism plan' let's be realistic. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Well, since the county Zoning and Commissioners didn't take into account the turbine company setback guidelines, neighboring homeowners concern or even consulting Miss Dig before starting a project, one can only assume that the "road agreement" will be rubber stamped to go through as well. The Commissioners and Zoning director should be ashamed. The LDN needs to step up and show some backbone as well. After all, when the Badger gets forced to quit and people stop coming because they don't want to see unsightly windmills, how many ads will the LDN sell...?

bigboss . . . have you ever been near a wind turbine or drive by McBain where they have these already? The noise is very minimal and they are not an eyesore! As for tourism, I live in Riverton township, and I can honestly say, I have never really seen too many tourist out driving around on the country roads. The tourist spend most of their time in the city, by the lake, not in the country, 15 - 20 miles south. I actually think most tourist, if there were driving out in Riverton or Summit, would be amazed at these wind turbines and there actual beauty!

I think we should just forget about wind and put a nuclear energy site up, that would really attract the tourist... You antis should become Amish....

My kids & I have a wind turbine technician Hubby/daddy that we too are hoping he can move back in with us here in MI! If we could, we'd put them in our own back yard! Just Beautiful!

Personally I love the car ferries, but how it is that a community is willing to alienate their life long neighbors in order to decimate 9300 acres to save the planet, is fighting to keep the coal burning, lake polluting car ferries in service. Whatever could motivate people to behave so irrational? Maybe the recent news from that sleepy little community called Ludington is an indication of the direction the values of it tenant’s. I am sad for what I have been reading, the day will come when Mason County will realize how they have been duped, and it will be to late when they finally look up to find they have sold their souls for empty promises. A few will prosper but the community as a whole will soon realize that they can never recover what they have lost.
