Ammonia is NOT for human consumption, but it is a ingrediant for a meat filler called "PINK SLIME", Silicone & Petrol are NOT for human consumption but they are both ingrediants in Chicken McNuggets which have all been in the news recently. Unless you are buying organic, almost every food you buy contains chemicals. Whether those chemicals are harmless or dangerous can be a matter of opinion. The United States Food and Drug Association considers the type of chemical as well as the amount of chemical present when it determines whether the chemical is harmful, some people are sensitive to these chemicals and therefore they must avoid them. I'm sure Spice doesn't effect everyone the same. You are going to start holding store clerks and owners liable for selling a product that is not for human consumption when almost every food made today has an ingrediant that should not be consumed by humans, which means you should start holding almost every manufacturer of everything, everywhere, liable. Who should be held liable is the buyer. Clearly the product is labled and it was their choice to use the product not for it's intended purpose!
Is it still legal for me to soak my feet in epsom salts?
No doubt, Chief Barnett will next try to ban us from buying nutmeg, rye bread, Stilton cheese, Mulberries, and anything with poppy seeds on it. Sometimes model airplane glue is used to put together model airplanes. What I see here is two local businesses being harassed by law enforcement, and hearsay information being spread around as fact.
What an ignorant statement Dolores. Anyone that knows anything, knows what that incense is sold for. The purpose is to side step a law, and to get high, but the problem is that this stuff dangerous (even though the real stuff isn't).
How about Naptha, paint thinner, gasoline, mineral spirits, all glues, and a whole host of other chemicals labeled not for human consumption or injestion? If you have a legal product, it's up to the user/buyer to use it according to instructions. Here-say evidence is inadmissible in court. What is admissible is sworn affidavits, notarized complaints, hospital reports with patients seriously ill and making written complaints. Letters of warnings is one thing, but, I'm sorry Chief, you haven't got strict proofs & evidence to support your presence at businesses to force the discontinued sales of such products. In the mean time, solicit the Michigan legislature to have them banned, otherwise, you are doing a disservice and violating businesses rights to conduct everyday sales of legal products. Good comments so far. We shouldn't have to worry about a police state in Ludington, but there you go again.
Since prescription drug abuse has now topped car accidents in accidental deaths(true stat -look it up),I certainly hope our local powers that be put a moratorium on Vicodin usage and sales....All these "spice" users are trying to do is use a product that will not get them in trouble with the law. I believe the voters passed a law in 2008 that would do just that without putting a questionable product in their bodies in the first place. I think our state Attorney General and law enforcement actually created this "problem".
Hey Dolores, Chief Barnett's job is to protect the city residents, do some research on Spice and you will see effects of it. Have you heard about local businesses being broken into to steal it by people who are addicted to Spice? Then local LE take the complaint and help out the local businesses and catch the criminal. But according to you all the Chief and LE officers are doing are just harassing people. Before you compare Spice to actual food products, do a little reading on it and see the cause and effects of it, instead of being a typical resident who HAS to blame something on local LE.
